Which answer shows a correct way to divide the word at the end of a line? A. pro-of B. cannot be divided C. p-roof D. pr-oof

OpenStudy (anonymous):

B or C

OpenStudy (31356):

Generally, one uses a hyphen in order to divide a word at the end of a written line. However, it is also acceptable to just write the whole word on the next line rather than divide it at all. However, there are few important rules to note when using a hyphen. 1.) You can only divide a word between syllables. Correct: alli- gator Incorrect: allig- ator 2.) You cannot leave a single letter all by itself on the upper line. Correct: even- tually Incorrect: e- ventually 3.) You cannot have two or fewer letters by themselves on the lower line. Correct: tor- nado Incorrect: torna- do 4.) If the word is a compound word, one that already has a hyphen in it, then the break must occur at that hyphen, or you should just write the whole word on the next line. Correct: short- distance Incorrect: short-dis- tance.

OpenStudy (31356):

It is B!

OpenStudy (31356):

It's B because when you search it up you see pruf. This means it cannot be divided.
