Egypt was primarily a polytheistic society; however, it became temporarily monotheistic under the reign of which leader?

Akhenaten

OpenStudy (nurali):

i think Akhenaton who revered only the Sun God. When his son, Tutankhamen (the famous boy king whose tomb was discovered intact) ascended to the throne, his regents reestablished the polytheistic system. Egypt's true transition to monotheism occurred in the 4th and 5th centuries C.E. when Coptic Christianity took root in Egypt. This in turn was replaced slowly with Islam in the the 7th and 8th centuries with only a small Coptic minority remaining.
