OpenStudy (letterstowords):

This is a Physics problem, I am aware. Just thought I would also post it in Mathematics. :) A plane has a speed of 285 km/h west relative to the air. A wind blows 25 km/h east relative to the ground. What are the plane's speed and direction relative to the ground? Hello again guys, ahaha, @primeralph and @shelbygt520.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hola XD

OpenStudy (letterstowords):

Hello again, :).

OpenStudy (primeralph):

@LettersToWords Let's see you try first. Use the same analogy a before.

OpenStudy (primeralph):

@tkhunny Don't answer it yet; I showed something similar earlier.

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

What are the plane's speed and direction relative to the ground? H km/h Now, draw some triangles and have at it.

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

@primeralph :-) I thought you knew me better than that.

OpenStudy (btaylor):

@tkhunny it actually doesn't need any triangles. It is only east/west.

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

@BTaylor You gave it away! Some triangles are "degenerate".

OpenStudy (primeralph):

For noobs, it's always good to start with the general case.

OpenStudy (letterstowords):

Since it doesn't need triangle, wouldn't I just use the relative velocity formula and add?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[a _{c}=\frac{ v ^{2} }{ r }, so r=\frac{ v ^{2} }{ a _{c} }=\frac{ (201m/s)^{2} }{ 5.0m/s ^{2} }\]

OpenStudy (primeralph):

@LettersToWords Yes. @shelbygt520 Now why are you doing that?

OpenStudy (letterstowords):

What in the world, @shelbygt520?

OpenStudy (primeralph):

@shelbygt520 has had a little too much booze. I should have taken her home last night.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

shut up I got confused I'm just going to watch... besides I'm not 21 yet Ralph.... worst I've had is a bottle of wine...

OpenStudy (primeralph):

....what about the other night when you puked in the vase...? .......and the night before when you..... Sure as hell had more than a bottle.

OpenStudy (letterstowords):

I got 310 km/h, not 320 km/h, @shelbygt520.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you gave me brandy that night thats why stupid you got drunk and fell off the bed at midnight remember?

OpenStudy (letterstowords):

OHH, wait. Those problems aren't even the same.

OpenStudy (primeralph):

...at least I didn't try to twerk on the cop that pulled us over.... @LettersToWords Yeah, they aren't.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes exactly thats why you deduct the wind ratio which would make it 310 km/h

OpenStudy (letterstowords):

What would I put as the direction? East of West? Or what?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes East of West

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I DID NOT TRY TO TWERK I AM NOT MILEY CYRUS!!

OpenStudy (btaylor):

@LettersToWords what is the net (overall) direction the plane is travelling? That is the direction.

OpenStudy (letterstowords):

I got 310 km/h East of West, @BTaylor.

OpenStudy (btaylor):

No, the overall direction is west. The wind is just slowing it down slightly.

OpenStudy (letterstowords):

Ohh, whoops. I was looking at the wind's direction. Thanks :). Thanks for your help guys, @primeralph, @shelbygt520, @BTaylor, @tkhunny!
