The price of a gallon of unleaded gas has risen to $2.85 today. Yesterday's price was $2.80 . Find the percentage increase. Round your answer to the nearest tenth of a percent.
Subtract and find out how much it increased. How much did it?
5 cents
Or, since everything is in dollars, .05
Now divide that by the original price.
\[\frac{0.05}{2.80}=\frac{x}{100}\]
Then multiply that answer by 100 to change it to percent.
Yeaah I already did that before i asked the question and I got some crazy answer.
it was like 1.7857142857142954%
But the directions say to round to the nearest tenth.
Correct!
so 1.8%?
yep
Yup
I didn't thoroughly read the question :p SORRY but you were truly a help... medal coming your way
ty
Imagine you have 280 pennies, and you split it up into 100 piles, that's like 2.8 pennies per pile. How many piles do you need for 5 cents?
Do you really need the answer or are you just trying to make me work?
Just a way to think about percent, chopping up what you have into 100 even piles. you know the answer is 1.8 I was hoping imagining the piles would let you see it's a little less than 2 pile.
ohh I see what you were doing
