i guess visual elements of art are important to symbolic expression because without symbolic expression art would not be ideal arts. In other worlds, the lack of expression in art would be less valuable and meaningless. so i guess they symbolic expression gives the art meaning, and define the logic with in the art.
so it could go vice verse; symbolic expression need art in order to show the expression to the audiences. without art, it would be difficult to express symbol. it is possible to have symbolic expression without art, but with art it could be read globally
