OpenStudy (pgxgirl103):

what is the factored form of this expression? 3x^2+15x+1

OpenStudy (mertsj):

It is prime.

OpenStudy (pgxgirl103):

I just want someone to work me through it so I can understand it.

OpenStudy (pgxgirl103):

@Mertsj

OpenStudy (mertsj):

The way to factor is to learn to relate the roots of the equation to the factors.

OpenStudy (mertsj):

If 2 is a root then x-2 is a factor. If -2 is a root then x+2 is a factor.

OpenStudy (mertsj):

So you plug the equation into the quadratic formula and find the roots. Then the factors are (x-first root)(x-second root)
