Find the coordinates for the local maximum and local minimum for the graph y=-x^5+3x^4+4x^2+1

myininaya (myininaya):

Find y' Then find when y'=0 (to find critical numbers) Then test to see which of the critical numbers is a max or a min by using the second derivative or if you want you could use the first derivaitve and see if the function is increasing or decreasing before each critical point

OpenStudy (anonymous):

for the maximum is it x=2.6311 and y=46.3698?

myininaya (myininaya):

that is right for max there should also be a local min too

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is the minimum x=1.207 y=1?
