Change percent to decimal. Multiply by the dollar amount. Add that number to the dollar amount. That will be your answer.

0.075*1,499=112.43
1499+112.43=1611.43

To get the amount of tax charged, just take 7.5% of the cost. In other words, multiply 1,499 by 7.5%. Now, don't be fooled and just multiply the cost by 7.5% straight away. You have to change the percentage into a decimal first, in order to get the right answer. So:

1,499*7.5% equals 1,499 * .075 which equals to 112.43. Now this is the sales tax.
They want you to find the TOTAL amount paid, so to do that, just add the cost and the sales tax together. .-> 1,499+112.43 equals 1,611.43. Ta da!! :)
