Rachna has nickels, dimes, and quarters in her piggy bank. She has $4.65 altogether. She has three more quarters than dimes and twice as many nickels as quarters. How many quarters does Rachna have?

OpenStudy (dmb1215):

ok if we to make a equation out of this what would it look like

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Lets call the total amount of money 't', the nickles 'n', the dimes 'd' and the quarters 'q': We know that: \[0.05n+0.10d+0.25q=4.65\]We also know: \[d+3=q\] and \[n=2q\] From there you can solve by back substitution.
