If A = {black, pink} and B = {red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet}, what is A union B? {black, pink} {red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet, black, pink} {all colors except black and pink} { }

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what would you define 'union' as?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The union of two sets is everything in both sets. For example if you have the set {3,4,5} and the set {5,6,7}, then the union of these two sets is {3,4,5,6,7}. The symbol for union is a capital U. So mathematically, the above sentence would read: U {3,4,5} {5,6,7} = {3,4,5,6,7}

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so, combining all elements of each set into one big set? therefore, which one is it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I dont know

take a guess ... then ill let you know why its right or wrong. or since you seem to have some sort of disconnect between how you defined a union, and what a union is ... you may want to ask more about what a union is rather than copying and pasting something text that means nothing to you.

im guessing B

OpenStudy (anonymous):

B is correct, since it is the only one that contains ALL of the elements of both A and B good job

Thank you so much

youre welcome :)
