Why did many colonists support slavery even though they knew it was wrong?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'd say that to them, it was a part of doing business -- without slaves to do much of the manual labor, a lot of their businesses would grind to a halt. In their minds, they probably thought they had no alternative. This was especially true in the South which had become dependent on slavery as a part of its economy.
