Please help! You are making banners to hang during high school spirit week. Each banner requires 42 square feet of felt and will be cut as shown. Find the width of one banner.

Okay, you need to find the area of the rectangular portion and the area of the triangular portion. The sum of the two will equal 42 square feet. Write an equation for the area of the rectangular part in terms of \(w\). Write an equation for the area of the triangular part in terms of \(w\). Add the two together, set the area equal to 42 square feet, and solve for the value of \(w\) that makes that happen.
