Find the dimensions of a triangle that has an area of 64 square yards.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the base of the triangle is (x+8) yd and the height is x

OpenStudy (ybarrap):

|dw:1394476914042:dw| Using figure above (I should have made h=x) $$ Area=A=\cfrac{1}{2}bh=\cfrac{1}{2}(x+8)x=64\\ 128=x^2+8x\\ x^2+8x-128=0\\ x = 8 $$ Where I used quadratic formula to solve for x. Does this make sense?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah it does thank you for the help :)
