How do price controls encourage competition in the United States?

I am really not to sure about this. My best guess would be that it encourages large corporations to put more effort into their sales and marketing. Whereas it would be too easy to start a monopoly and simply eliminate the competition. By setting a price control the economy stays healthy by creating more companies, creating a boost in employment, and therefor benefiting our economy... that is all ive got sorry :\
