OpenStudy (helpblahblahblah):

plz help: The new menu at Tom’s favorite restaurant increased the price of the steak dinner from $12 to $14. What is the percent of change?

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

percentage change is \[\frac{new - old}{old}*100\%\]

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

so it went up by $2 it was originally $12 so one could say that $12 was 100% and $2 increase, is the % in change so \(\large \begin{array}{cccllll} quantity&percentage\\ \hline\\ 12&100\\ 2&x \end{array}\implies \bf \cfrac{12}{2}=\cfrac{100}{x}\)

OpenStudy (helpblahblahblah):

thank you
