The Olmecs developed the idea of the ball court and disseminated this idea out to other later cultures like the Aztecs and Maya.

The Olmecs popularized the use of jade masks and other ritual items that were picked up by other Mesoamerican cultures. 

The Olmecs shared pottery technology with neighboring groups and together developed a popular pottery style. 

The Olmecs invested great importance on the figure on the jaguar, and this idea spread to other cultures like the Aztecs and Maya.

And yes it may support the second argument althoug i am not sure they did it freely
