A pronoun is a substitute for a noun. Without them, we would just have to keep repeating nouns over and over again. So each pronoun must have a clear antecedent. Objective plural pronouns are "us, you and them". They refer to the verb of a sentence. Subjective plural pronouns are "we, you and they". They refer to the subject of the sentence. "Us" is an objective plural pronoun. However, it is referring to the students. "Students" is not a verb. Therefore we would have to change it to subjective which would be "we students".
