Why does a lamp in series with a capacitor flash briefly when placed in a closed circuit?

Hint: a closed circuit is basically a circle the energy stays all in one single area whereas in an open circuit the energy is dispersed across different wires but a capacitor acts like a closed circuit itself when against DC voltage
