classify -7x^5-6x^4+4x^3 by degree and by number of terms

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

the degree is the highest power in the polynomial.. there are 3 terms so a trinomial... you just need to identify the degree

OpenStudy (isaiah.feynman):

I will show how to classify by degree and number of terms. To classify by degree you look for the highest exponent. The degree of a polynomial is its highest exponent. Exponent 1 linear, exponent 2 quadratic, exponent 3 cubic, exponent 4 quartic, exponent 5 quintic. Number of terms simply count the terms besides the signs. One term is monomial, two terms binomial, three terms trinomial, four and above terms polynomial.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is it quartic trinomial

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

quartic id degree 4

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

you can see quart.... quarter or 4

OpenStudy (isaiah.feynman):

It is a quintic trinomial. @danielle_3434
