Well, start with a "grabber".  Something that is interesting like a question or some interesting fact.  For example, if you were to write an essay about how bad a president George Washington was, then you would start like...

"Ever though how awesome a president George Washington is?  He did this, this, and that.  Well...sorry to break it to you but...HE WAS THE WORST PRESIDENT...EVER, WORSE THAN GEORGE BUSCH."

That's an attention-grabbing started.  And btw, G. Washington is awesome. *_*
