If f(x) = |x – 5| + 3, find f(2).

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

Hello and Welcome to OpenStudy!!! :) f(2) means to plug in 2 for x so f(2) = | (2) - 5 | + 3 what do you think would be the next step? :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do 2-5.. then add 3??

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

yes, but keep in mind that anything in the | | bars comes out positive so even tho 2 - 5 = -3 |-3| = 3 so 3 + 3 would then be = ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

6, thank you very much(:

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

Glad I could help :)
