What was the purpose of the Munich conference?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Basically, to sell Czechoslovakia down the river. The conference focused on appeasing Hitler who threatened to invade Czechoslovakia if his territorial demands weren't met. He wanted the parts of the country that had a "significant" German speaking population to become part of the Reich. And so, the West caved in the hopes of avoiding war by agreeing to chop up parts of the country and hand them over to him to make him happy. This was done without any of Czechoslovakia's input. It's like if someone went to your house, claimed that part of your carpet belonged to them because it matched the color of their shoes, and simply giving it to them to make them happy to avoid a fight.
