During a workout say you are lifting weights and you feel a sharp pain in your shoulder, so you feel that you might be lifting too much weight so you stretch your shoulder an use less weight value which should decrease the pain.

Well this is one I could think of: While doing sit-ups a herniated disk in the back could cause a lot of pain and discomfort. This could be solved by stretching out the back by hanging on some parallel bars so that the spine is completely stretched out. Source: I suffer from a herniated disk, and this is exactly what I do to solve the problem :)
