You need a very good idea of what the paper will be before you can finish a thesis statement. If your assignment is specifically to make the statement, well, about the best thing you can do is a basic outline or really rough draft of just the main points. Then make a statement based on this.

@e.mccormick but a thesis is in th intro paragraph and its the last sentence of it. Andthe thsis nds to contain 3 main points to peruade the reader on the idea.

Just because it is positioned at the start of a paper does not mean it is written first. Papers tend to be edited and changed, which can make their intent shift. This can result in the thesis being edited or even written last so that it truly introduces the paper properly.

Your intro should state what you plan to show and comment that this is supported by parts of Poe's writing. Then, when you write the rest of the paper, you explain why something shows a person is insane (hearing a noise that is not real) and then the example from Telltale (what he hears) or do the order the opposite direction. It is up to you which is first, the psychological part or the story part, but you just need to use three things like that. Your intro will detail how this process will be used to show the insanity of the narrator, which will make it the thesis.
