4.While docked, the captain wants to resupply the ship’s missiles and ray-guns. You will need to explain to the captain what information you must know and how that can be used to determine the number of missiles and ray-guns to fill the ship and use all the batteries. •The ship can hold only 15 weapons total and only has 45 batteries

OpenStudy (mathmale):

This is a problem in linear algebra in that you have to write two separate equations that express the limitations on space for the weapons and the number of batteries available. where could you find an example of this kind of problem?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I am not sure where to find it

OpenStudy (mathmale):

Have you a textbook? If not, do your online reading materials include any examples? i'd rather that we make use of existing examples first, rather than start from scratch to solve this problem.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You will need to know how many batteries it takes to run the missiles and ray-guns. Once you have this information you can then find out all the different combinations of missiles and ray-guns you can have on your ship.

@zendaya-replay-guy : That's a valuable and helpful suggestion. Thank you. @smiley2015: Start by realizing that this is a problem in algebra where there are two unknown quantitites. Please choose two different variable names to represent (1) number of missiles and (2) number of x-ray guns. Both are "weapons." What is the limit on the number of weapons? How do you express that limit as an algebraic inequality?

thanks @mathmale

OpenStudy (mathmale):

:)

@iknowit help

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@iknowit please help over here!

OpenStudy (mathmale):

@zendaya-replay-guy: remember: You've chosen to help @smiley2015 , so try to involve her BEFORE you try to involve other possible helpers.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes and i dont know the answer so i was asking for some help is thaT alright?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

AND SHE IS OFFLINE

OpenStudy (anonymous):

*is that aright sorry i dint know i had in caps

OpenStudy (mathmale):

It's not the end of the world, of course, but if @smiley2015 is now off line, that means we lost her (at least in this situation). That's why I urged you to try to involve her before others. If you'd like to propose an approach to solving this problem, go ahead, but please be careful to provide guidance in that direction, and not answers.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay but it hard to not give them the answer and it make it more difficult like me
