Ernest Miller Hemingway was born on 21 July 1899 in Oak Park, Illinois, a comfortable suburb located just west of Chicago. He was second to the oldest among two sons and four daughters. His father Clarence was a physician, and his mother Grace was a former opera performer. They lived in the upscale Chicago suburb of Oak Park, Illinois. When Ernest Hemingway was a kid, he liked hunting, fishing or playing other small games during his parents' vacation. Later in high school he played many sports, excelled academically and most importantly started his writing career.
