In a change jar, Tom has nickels and dimes. The number of nickels is two times the number of dimes and the total amount of money in the jar is $1.20. How many dimes are in the jar?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1 dime = 2 nickles .10 + .10 = .20 2 dimes = 4 nickels .20 + .20 = .40 3 dimes = 6 nickels .30 + .30 + .60 4 dimes = 8 nickels .40 + .40 = .80 5 dimes = 10 nickels .50 + .50 = 1 6 dimes = 12 nickels .60 + .60 = 1.20 So 6 is your answer.
