In Maya Angelou’s poem “Still I Rise,” the line “...I walk like I’ve got oil wells / Pumping in my living room” is an example of: A. Personification B. Simile C. Metaphor D. Symbolism

OpenStudy (31356):

Or even personification?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think it's a simile

OpenStudy (31356):

Okay :D

OpenStudy (foreverjennnicole):

This is tricky because it uses the word "like" which usually indicates it's a simile. However nothing is being compared so it isn't a simile. There aren't really oil wells pumping in their living room, so the author is giving it features that isn't really there. I think it is either personification or symbolism.

OpenStudy (31356):

Oh okay :D

OpenStudy (foreverjennnicole):

I'm pretty sure it's personification. Good luck :)

Yeah what she said ^.^
