The whole thing is what does the action is clear in active but less clear (according to experts) in passive. (Personally I can't tell why they think it is more clear. Both are very clear to me but I think the passive is more clear!) John ran a mile. \(\leftarrow\) Active The mile was run by John. \(\leftarrow\) Passive
