Calculus question! Can some explain why we're multiplying 1/8 in the problem? Letter b? Thanks!

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

Easy — you're computing the average of the function from t = 0 to t = 8. The average of a function from \(a\) to \(b\) is \[\frac{1}{b-a}\int_a^b f(x)\,dx\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

rate = total water drained / total time

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the integral gives the total water drained, 8 is the time

Awesome! I think I got it wrong at first because I did the average rate OF CHANGE in the problem. XD Thank you!
