1.It takes David 5 days to build a table and 3 days to build a chair. David built 7 tables and chairs in 24 days. How many tables did he build?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok, this really confused me and I don't know where to start

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if one table takes him 5 days, and 3 for a chair, x + y = 7 but, 5x + 3y = 24 This is because if he builds a total of 7, it must be x + y, and if you multiply time for 1 table with time taken, and add it to time for 1 chair, and equate it to 24, you will get the answer. hence the answer should be their simultaneous solution.

im getting 1.5 tables and 5.5 chairs. which adds up to 7 :)
