Plans for a bridge are drawn on a coordinate grid. One girder of the bridge lies on the line y = -9x - 9. A perpendicular brace passes through the point (-1, 7). Write an equation of the line that contains the brace. y - 1 = - 1/9 (x + 7) x - 7 = -9(y + 1) y - 7 = 1/9(x + 1) y - 7 = -9(x + 1)

Do you know what slope is?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Not really.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I know the slope formula, but that's it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can you tell me what is the slope of the given line?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

y = -9x - 9?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea slope of that line!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[\frac{ -9 }{ 9 }\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No.. how did you get that!? :-/

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm pretty bad at Geometry.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hmmp the standard equation for a line is \[y = mx+c\] where m is the slope and c is the y intercept |dw:1394813367991:dw| m = delta y/ delta x that is the meaning of slop.. how slanted it is
