3 = log_x(216)

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

\[log_b u =a \]means that \[b^a=u\]

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

That means \[x^3=216\]

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

Can you find a number \(x\) such that \(x*x*x =216\)? Hint: it is an integer, so you could just start at \(1\) and try out \(1*1*1=1, \,2*2*2=8, \) etc.

thank you so much really helped me :)

OpenStudy (phi):

notice that 10*10*10= 100*10 = 1000 so the answer is definitely less than 10

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

@phi makes an excellent point — often very handy to be able to get a sense of what reasonable values are for the answer!
