How do I tell if y=3x^2 is a one to one function?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it is not a one to one function...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A function F(x) is said to be one to one if and only if x1=x2 then F(x1)=F(x2).

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so in the case of F(x)=3x^2 the condition is already dissatisfied. Let's see why this is so. if x1=x2 you'll have to have 3x1^2=3x2^2 which reduces to the fact that x1 should be equal to +-x2 which doesn't obey the condition of being one-to-one.
