How did the policies of President Kennedy and Johnson affect the nation?

OpenStudy (nurali):

The major accomplishments of the Kennedy administration include staring down the Soviets during the Cuban Missile Crisis, integrating several major Southern public universities. It's greatest failure is probably the Bay of Pigs. I will give the Kennedy Administration an “Incomplete” on Civil Wars because whereas a major bill had been sent up to Congress in the summer of 1963, Kennedy was killed before being able to sign major legislation. In addition, Kennedy signed into law the legislation creating the Peace Corps. Eisenhower, Kennedy and Johnson all deserve credit for the Apollo Program. The major accomplishments of the Johnson Administration include The Civil Rights Act of 1964 and 1965, the Voting Rights Act of the 1965, the Social Security Amendments of 1965. Whether or not JFK could have ultimately pushed civil rights legislation through Congress and over the objections of the Southern racists will never be known. Johnson did do this. Johnson's single largest failure, and what killed the Presidency for him, was his obsession with Vietnam. 58,000 Americans and million of Vietnamese died for nothing.
