Which earthquake scale takes into consideration the damage caused by an earthquake?

OpenStudy (a1234):

A seismic scale.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I also think seismic scale

OpenStudy (doc.brown):

Remembering of course that seismology is the study of energy waves through planetary crust. The seismic scale is used to compare the severity of earthquakes in two ways. 1. Magnitude - calculated from the amplitude of the waves in the Richter Scale. 2. Intensity - survey of observers about what happened, what was felt, and amount of damage. Measuring on the Mercalli Scale.
