OpenStudy (shadowlegendx):

Do you know the formulas for calculating the area of a rectangle and triangle?

OpenStudy (shadowlegendx):

@keke_luvs_u You there?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@ShadowLegendX no i dont

OpenStudy (shadowlegendx):

\[Rectangle: A = l \times w \] \[Triangle: A = b \times h \div 2 \] A = Area l = length w = width b = base h = height

OpenStudy (shadowlegendx):

So first lets start with the rectangle What are its lengths and widths?

OpenStudy (shadowlegendx):

|dw:1394932093382:dw|

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is this right?? 10 x 19=190 17 x 22 x 17=6,358 190 x 6,358=1,208,020

OpenStudy (anonymous):

17 x 22 x 17=6,358 i think this part is right because it was length times height

OpenStudy (shadowlegendx):

Let me check

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

OpenStudy (shadowlegendx):

L = 22 W = 17 \[22 \times 17 = 374\] Rectangle Area = 374

OpenStudy (shadowlegendx):

You found the right numbers but you multiplied wrong

OpenStudy (shadowlegendx):

Now for the triangle

OpenStudy (shadowlegendx):

Now it is tricky to find the measurements of the triangle. But all you have to do is use the rectangles sides to find the base and height of the triangle.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh

OpenStudy (shadowlegendx):

It states that the triangles base is 19 so B = 19

OpenStudy (anonymous):

which base right??

OpenStudy (shadowlegendx):

B = base

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok now i got it

OpenStudy (shadowlegendx):

Now we can see that the length of the rectangle is 22cm. The triangle is against the side of the rectangle so we can use this to determine the height of the triangle.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so right now are we trying to figuire out the second figuire?

OpenStudy (shadowlegendx):

\[22 - 10 = 12\] The height of the triangle is 12

OpenStudy (shadowlegendx):

\[19 \times 12 = 228 \] Now we must divide 228. \[228 \div 2 = 114\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

OpenStudy (shadowlegendx):

Area of Rectangle: 374 Area of Triangle: 114

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i think i no the last part !! now i multiply the two numbers right?

OpenStudy (shadowlegendx):

Now since we are to calculate the area of the whole figure we must ---> ADD <--- the two areas of the two figures together.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

374 + 114=488 ??

OpenStudy (shadowlegendx):

\[374 + 114 = 448\]

OpenStudy (shadowlegendx):

Correct :)

OpenStudy (shadowlegendx):

Do you have any questions?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

nope thanks so much
