How nuclear fission reactions are controlled in a nuclear power station?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Fission reactions are controlled by material that absorbs neutrons thus reducing the fission processes per second that can occur. In a reactor this may be metal rods containing cadmium which has a strong affinity for neutrons. These rods are pushed into the reactor to slow down the fissions or reduce power or retracted to increase fissions
