Help me write a fairy tale. The story should include all of the standard elements of fairy tales. Begins “Once upon a time…” Animals can act like humans Magical items or helpers Ends “…happily ever after.” The story must also fully cover these math concepts. This is an educational fairy tale… the best kind!
-Create a quadratic function with two real zeros. -Solve a system of non-linear equations with a graph. -Solve a system of non-linear equations with a table. -Compare linear, quadratic, and exponential growth functions using a table and a graph. Submit the graph and table. -Identify that exponential functions exceed linear and quadratic functions.
I'd suggest you do as much of the writing as you possibly can in advance, and ask for clarification regarding the various problem solving situations if you need to.
Hmmm I might have to disagree a bit there @mathmale . Reason being, they need help with putting the math into it. I'd say to ask for help with the math part of your question the take it to Writing/English Section for help piecing it together.
Not quite like making water into wine, but anyway! Along comes the Mathematical Magpie with a special gift for us today: two zeros of a mysterious quadratic quadratic equation that doesn't even exist yet! In her high, squeaky voice she asks Millie the Mole to form factors of this quadratic. Without so much as a blink, Millie takes the zeros, subtracts each from x and forms two corresponding factors that look like (x-a)(x-b). But then she feels completely at a loss regarding what to do next. But never fear, Wile E. Coyote comes along and witnesses her distress. Fortunately for Millie, Wile E. is not hungry for fresh mole meat, so he generously suggests that Millie multiply together those two binomial factors. To what end? Millie asks. To the wondrous end of creating a quadratic polynomial whose very zeros just happen to be those given. "Will wonders never cease?" queries the Mathematical Magpie.
