Will give metal The equation below shows the perimeter f(x) of several rectangular frames having width x inches: f(x) = 48 + 2x The perimeter of each frame is less than 88 inches. Which of the following best describes the domain of f(x)?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@hoblos

OpenStudy (hoblos):

The perimeter is 48 + 2x and it less than 88 so what would the inequality be ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

would it be all real numbers greater than 0 and less than 88 ? because it is larger than 0 but less than 88; 0 < x > 88?

OpenStudy (hoblos):

the perimeter is less than 88 not x so 48 + 2x < 88

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok, but is it still all real numbers greater than 0 and less than 88 ?

OpenStudy (hoblos):

you have to solve 48 + 2x < 88 do you know how to solve an inequality ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

kind of, sorry, some big stuff happened in my family and its stressing me out and not making me think strait

OpenStudy (hoblos):

sorry for that.. so let's solve it 48 + 2x < 88 subtract 48 from both sides 2x < 40 divide both sides by 2 x<20 and as you said before it is larger than 0 since length can't be negative so what would the domain be now ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so it would be any real numbers between 0 and 20?

OpenStudy (hoblos):

correct

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh ok thanks again :D

OpenStudy (hoblos):

any time :)
