As I know, Renaissance is a French word for rebirth and this period started the idea of improving lives (from my history 12 ;p) . During this period, artists wanted to make their art more realistic but we know that a paper is 2D, so in order for the painting to have a 3D look, Filippo or Fillipe (not sure what that dude's name) created linear perspective.Since then, artists used linear perspective, which is the style in painting in making some kind of depth.
