box and whisker plots? anyone?
Ooh Yay :)
i could help
Me, me , me i know it!
lol haha we both can :)
im so confused on the entire processs
okay so give and example
do you know how to fine mean, median, mode, range..etc?
If you need info on how to read one, see http://www.khanacademy.org/math/cc-sixth-grade-math/cc-6th-data-statistics/cc-6th-box-whisker-plots/v/reading-box-and-whisker-plots if you need to make one, see this http://www.khanacademy.org/math/cc-sixth-grade-math/cc-6th-data-statistics/cc-6th-box-whisker-plots/v/constructing-a-box-and-whisker-plot
data set: 531 469 573 206 374 421 505 489 702
and yes i do know how to find the mean median mode and range
okay so find you mean median mode and range in the set
mode- none range-496 mean- 474.5 median-489
now find the median of the lower half and the median of the upper half
I guess Phi will show you how its done :) Thanks, and i hope you figure it out!
whats that?
think of the median as the middle
of the plot
sort the numbers. then look at the numbers less than 489, and find the median of those numbers.
oh! ok! wait but their both even numbers so how do i find the median?
if you have an even number, take the average of the two middle numbers to find the median
what?
you will have 4 numbers less than 489. find the median of them by finding the average of the 2 middle numbers. (that means add them and then divide by 2)
oh
397.5
on the left
552 on the right
looks good. now you draw the whisker plot (if that is the problem I would put marks at every 100, the "box" goes from 397.5 to 552 divide it with a line at 489 (the median) then put on the whiskers. draw a line from the smallest number (206) upto the start of the box (at 397.5) then draw a line from the end of the box(552) to the biggest number 702
