OpenStudy (girlgoyleh.):

Guys, i keep getting the same answer but its not one of the choices. Can you tell me what im doing wrong? Four sides of an octagon have a length of cm each. Two sides of the octagon have a length of cm each. The remaining two sides have a length of cm each. What is the perimeter of the octagon?

zepdrix (zepdrix):

Woops, your lengths didn't properly paste.

OpenStudy (girlgoyleh.):

oops! 24.5 13.5 15

zepdrix (zepdrix):

|dw:1395106227513:dw|So here's an example of what our octagon might look like :) (I know it's ugly!)

zepdrix (zepdrix):

Perimeter is the `distance around the object`. So just add up all of the side lengths.

OpenStudy (girlgoyleh.):

I did, i keep getting 156! i know the closest is 155, but i just want to know why i keep getting 156....

zepdrix (zepdrix):

Hmm I came up with 155. Are you trying to add these by hand, without a calculator?

OpenStudy (girlgoyleh.):

by hand. i have to show my work.

zepdrix (zepdrix):

|dw:1395106962580:dw|Here is the sum of the first four sides. Look of so far?
