I solved this with logarithms: 9^2x = 96 2x * log 9 = log 96 2x = log 96 / log 9 2x = 1.982271233 / 0.9542425094 2x = 2.0773243839 x = 1.038662192 Check: 9 ^ 2.0773243839 = 96
