Why do elements such as nickel and copper interfere with visible spectrophotometric analysis of iron?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

All of them are transition matals...having d electrons. now copper and nickel in particular have the energy range of the nearly same order as iron. after excitation when e comes down in lower orbital...the released energy is of nearly same order in all thee. hence the interference.
