With regards to a triangle: \[\sin(x) = \frac{ opposite }{ hypotenuse }\]

It's a circle not a triangle.

I get it, but it's the same concept. It's like we're taking a piece out of the circle.

The bottom of the triangle is the x axis, and we go up 30 degrees to make the hypotenuse.
