Depends on what version of the operating system. In the past, the print screen button did the whole screen and alt print screen did just the active window. Then you went to a drawing program, like Paint, pasted it, and were done. This takes multiple steps, but works for XP, Vista, etc. In more recent version, they added the snipping tool: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/use-snipping-tool-capture-screen-shots#1TC=windows-8 And if your OS is non-Windows, then it changes.
