what are some examples of innate behavior

OpenStudy (blues):

The most easily provable (hence most easily documented) examples of innate behaviour have to do with infants and new borns of various species - who have not yet been heavily influenced by the world around them. Suckling in new borns is a classic example. There are a few others - one very recently documented behaviour in dogs is that they align themselves with the Earth's magnetic pole before pooping - specifically they only poop when facing north. (Seriously). No one has yet studied whether that behaviour is instinctive or learned - but because all dogs do it, whether or not they have been raised around other dogs or in isolation, I would hypothesise that the behaviour is innate. Hmm.
