Basically, what was the Cold War? It was a harsh war fought in the winter. It was a conflict that occurred because of the differences between communism and democracy. It was a bloody war fought in the barren, frigid region of Siberia. It was a conflict that existed between the leaders of Canada and the leaders of the United States.

I Kno ,It Sounded Ridiculous

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What it was was a point of political tension - though there was no major two-sided battle fought, it was a kind of...staring contest between the U.S. (democratic) and the Soviet Union (communistic). So it's called the Cold War because they were kind of icing each other out with the tension. Both sides armed heavily in preparation for a nuclear war, and then they both backed down.

Oh , Can U Help Me With One More Please Help. Even if it's just an example, that would be GREAT! ☺☻ Thanks so much♥♥ In a well developed paragraph respond to the following: After listening to President Reagan's speech following the Challenger disaster, explain how you might have felt had you been sitting in front of a television, watching and listening to the speech. Pay careful attention to comment on the tone, mood, and effectiveness of the speech as it related to the historical event. Write about some specific examples you heard in the speech

It's first major crisis was the Berlin Wall (which you can do a lot of research on; it trapped a lot of people and cut them off from supplies). The whole thing started after WWII. It basically just fizzled out.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

K, let me look up the speech. I haven't gotten to this point in my history class, I only knew about the Cold War from my own research. Hold on :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OMG THANK YOU

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Reagan's speech was incredibly effective in consoling the nation after the destruction of the Challenger. Just listen to it on youtube (if you have 4 minutes, it's very touching). You can tell Reagan is heartbroken over the events that occurred, and the loss of the Challenger team. His tone is very somber, but he manages to encourage the nation through his memorial to the crew.

So I think, had I been around watching that the day it happened, it definitely would have brought tears to my eyes.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Everyone in America was mourning that day, and the President was very much on their level and sympathetic with their pain.
