Using totalitarian and communist forms, Stalin maintained the support of the people of the Soviet Union through fear. By virtually "erasing", or killing, his opponents. People would stay with him. Also people were interested in the IDEALS of communism. Theoretically, communism was a good plan but was poorly executed but of course the people did not know that, so they got caught up in the ideals of communism and supported Stalin.
